INTRODUCTION
When last we left Team Food for Wyrms,
The (divided) party had made their way back to Longsaddle
just in time to encounter a roving band of RETRIEVERS
bent on retrieving something they seem to think belongs to them
... or should.
Meanwhile, in Candlekeep, the party was informing
Zuur and his council of your findings to date,
and anticipating great revelations from the council.
Tarsakh 3rd, 1490 - Nightfall
SCENE 01 – CANDLEKEEP
- A council member drops a heavy tome on the table and begins reading to himself from it.
- ZUUR peers over his shoulder and ask "What have you found?"
- "The um green round ... Yeah! The Revivitor Orb ... three of them ... in a triangle, it's REALLY cool!" ... and returns to reading from the book, to himself.
- Eventually ... you're able to learn that ...
- As you know, within 30' they do amazing things to undead
- When within a certain distance of each other (the orbs)
- 2 within 7 miles of each other - level 2 activates
- Heightened awareness of another orb in the area
- Pulsing heat radiating from the orb
- Disruption of undead along the line between the two orbs, and Undead cannot pass between them and if they attempt to pass through, they are "green flamed" ... and converted back to their pre-undead form.
- Don't try running with them, that doesn't work.
- 3 within 7 miles apart (triangle), all undead within the triangle are reverted to their pre-undead form.
- Unless the undead became so willingly ... in which case, they remain undead.
- META QUESTION: WILLINGNESS - There was a meta- question about whether or not the R.O. can change back to original form something that willingly became Undead. Here's the scoop:
- "Can't the individual orbs turn a creature that willingly became undead?"
- The original rules state "The undead need not be a willing subject (of the Orb's effect) to be returned to life as the being it was before it died. "
- The willingness referred to in this quote pertains to whether or not the creature being hit with Revivitor power is being reverted against its will or not.
- This text does not refer to whether or not the creature originally became undead in the first place willingly or not.
- So, to recap ...
- QUESTION 1 - Did you become undead willingly?
- If yes, then the R.O. can't flip you back
- If no, then, the R.O. CAN flip you, whether you want it to or not
- QUESTION 2 - As someone / something that didn't become undead willingly, do you WANT the R.O. to return you to your pre-undead form?
- If the answer is NO ... too bad, unless you became undead willingly, you're getting flipped anyway.
- If the answer is YES ... lucky you, you'll also get flipped back to your original form.

- Thanks the council for allowing her to speak in their presence
- (paraphrased) - "We are encountering loads of undead taking over the cities of Faerun; can you give us guidance to help us A) find the 2nd and 3rd orbs and B) provide the know-how to use them effectively. (17:00)
- Jedevez then steps back, thanking the council again for allowing her to speak with them and ask her questions.
- And the COUNCIL chatters on.
SCENE 02 – LONGSADDLE
- MOSS's plan sounds perfect!
- The ANIMATED ARMOR is set up in a defensive posture, using their platforms as a barrier, with one group assigned the task of encircling the RETRIEVERS as they approach, pushing them into the barrier that zaps people (the one that surrounds LONGSADDLE).
- SHAMIRA is hanging back in a position to fling magic at the RETRIEVERS as they approach.
- E'SSL stands out front, bravely (foolishly?) facing the oncoming assault
- MOSS joins E'SSL up front, ready to take on the foes!
- GRUMBLEBELLY is asleep in the rear, still struggling to find consciousness
The fog is getting thicker as darkness falls on the scene, when, from the North, you see four RETRIEVERS approaching from the North.
- E'SSL opens fire with his bow @ # when they reach 150' range
- First (23) shot hits for 10 damage
- Second shot (24) hits for 13 damage (23 total on #??)
- The RETRIEVERS advance at 40' to the party's right flank (the heavy side)
- E'SSL fires again when the RETRIEVERS reach 100'
- First shot misses at 17
- Second shot misses at 17 (fancy that)
- RETRIEVERS open fire with their FORCE BEAM.
- R1 attacks AA formation 1: -43 hp (out of 300)
- R2 attacks AA formation 2: -26 hp (out of 300)
- R3 attacks AA formation 3: -31 hp (out of 300)
- R4 attacks AA formation 4: -18 hp (out of 300)
- SHAMIRA is moving away, toward the apparent 2nd party on the ridge
- She see's the flashes of force beams and hears the clashing (fog and dark make visibility rough)
- DASHES back toward the party, specifically, moving to the right side of Group's 8 and 9, North of E'SSL at 60' speed, taking out her ROD OF THE PACT KEEPER
- MOSS holds for now
- E'SSL pulls out the ROD OF ALERTNESS and plunge it into the ground: 60' RADIUS
- +1 AC,
- +1 SAVING THROWS
- Sense all invisible creatures
- Casts white light over the area
- Lasts for 100 Rounds
- RETRIEVERS move from 60' out to 20' out
- R1 fire 13 - @ formation 1 - 23hp
- R2 fire 18 - @ formation 1 - 10hp
- R3 fire 21- @ formation 1 - 13hp
- R4 fires its PARALYZING BEAM at SHAMIRA
- (CON 20) - succeeds
SCENE 03 – CANDLEKEEP
- ZUUR returns from the COUNCIL chat
- "We will give you the tome for which you ask, when we find it ... it's here somewhere"
- "The information you have brought to us has helped us move our investigation forward tremendously.
- "But you must donate two tomes ... and you can write one if you'd like ... I fancy you have lots to say."
- The 2nd Orb is most likely on the ridge where you suspected it to be
- The 3rd Orb is known only to be "on Toril somewhere"
- JEDEVEZ offers two books
- "The History of the Sword Coast"
- One of the helpers comes over with a stack of forms and a quill and ink "You'll need to fill out these donation forms before you leave"
- In return for some bonus gifts, we also offer "Atlas of the Mines (of Mirabar)"
- PERSUASION=21 ... yay!
- One of the helpers whispers to ZUUR "That's a one of a kind ... unique ... definitely worth something ... extra"
- ZUUR - "fetch Kinko ... we'll need to make an emergency back up copy of this book"
- The wizards look for the book for which the party has asked, asking JEDEVEZ to help in the search for the book.
- INVESTIGATION=6 ... the investigation proceeds slowly
- JED may be stalling, enjoying her time in the stacks.
SCENE 04 – LONGSADDLE
- Battle ensues
- The remainder of each group of ANIMATED ARMORS swarm around the RETRIEVERS, trying to assail them with melee attacks.
- AA1: miss
- AA2: miss
- AA3: miss
- AA4: miss
- MOSS awakens GRUMBLEBELLY
- Falls in behind BALGRI
- E'SSL charges the nearest RETRIEVER with his sword
- FROST POWERS ACTIVATE
- (25) for 12 damage
- (27) for 15 damage
- Kick (16) miss
- BALGRI
- Throws his Dwarven Thrower (26) for 10 damage and charges the RETRIEVER
- SHAMIRA
- Points her ROD OF THE PACT KEEPER at RETRIEVER at #4
- ELDRITCH BLAST (nat 20!!!) for 15 damage, and stays put
- RETRIEVERS 1 & 2 sweep out on their 40' move and fire their PARALYZING BEAMS at SHAMIRA
- CON save: fails twice - VERY PARALYZED
- ANIMATED ARMOR OPP ATTACK - misses, misses, hits for 42 points of damage on #3
- RETRIEVER 3 grabs SHAMIRA and casts PLANE SHIFT
- PARTY INSIGHT CHECK
- E'SSL 18 - "It's like they knew she had the orb" and "they knew exactly what they came here to do" ... we saw them before with Mummies
- MOSS 13 - "It's like they knew she had the orb"
- SHAMIRA 9 - "Aaaaa!!!!"
- KEEP IN MIND you saw more RETRIEVERS moving toward the party you saw on the ridge (that SHAMIRA sensed had a 2nd orb).
- RETRIEVER #4 -
- FORCE BEAM (DEX save) @ E'SSL - takes 29 points of FORCE damage
- LEG ATTACKS miss ... :(
DM NOTE
- See maps and diagrams and audio notes for details, but R3 leaves with Plane Shift, the others stay to fight? Not clear yet.
