DnD Thu Ep#84(315) Played Nov 21, 2019 (Ches 14, 1490) PARTS UNKNOWN

In Attendance

INTRODUCTION

When last we left the Deep Hammers, 
They were exploring a new-to-them alien world/village 
when they encountered a local named LUCCI, who proceeded 
to lead the party down a creepy flight of spiral stairs, where 
the group encountered a glowing (and rumored to be winged) individual 
referred to by the locals as THE ONE. 
While conversing with the one, the party learned the following: 
The same thing that has been happening to Faerun happened on this world as well
What happened on THIS world has nearly destroyed all life
The locals have heard tell of the Purple Wyrm 
The One has been helping the locals on this world STAY ALIVE
The One wants to join up with the Deep Hammers in their quest to fix things
The One is excited about The Revivitor Orb, which it senses is carried by LLYRIN
Waving its arm, The One whisks you away to a warm and breezy garden ...

SCENE 01


  • Standing upon a pathway in the garden stands a seven foot tall bald headed woman in a shimmering robe
    • This "woman" welcomes you to her "home"
    • The pathway on which you stand is surrounded by lush foliage 
    • Two "suns" shine in the sky
  • The "woman" begins walking down the path on which you're standing (she's a Planetar).
  • "Let me fill you in":
    • "About the Revivitor Orb, let's fulfill your education. What do you already know?
      • Life to undead
      • Life to recently dead
      • Powerful magic artifact
      • Other unknown capabilities
    • Smiles, nods
    • "It has some other significant capabilities"
      • There are 3 Revivitor Orbs - you have 1
      • One other orb is also in the possession of another adventuring party on Toril, also  working to reverse what's gone so horribly wrong there
      • The third orb is in a location unknown
      • When arranged in a triangle at a range of 7 miles, the three orbs have incredible power - purges the area within the triangle of undeath, though willing undead can resist the effect of the orb. 
      • Location on Toril of the 3rd orb is not currently known
    • Questions - 
      • Can 1 orb in 3 points in time act as 3 orbs? 
        • No.
      • Is the other party meeting on Mondays? 
        • :D 
      • Do other / all universes have these? 
        • Some do, some do not.
      • Why did we find this orb on a ship in Waterdeep? 
        • The gods think it's a good idea.
      • How do we get our stuff back?
        • Veralt blinks and all his stuff is returned to him. 
        • LLYRIN has his stuff (didn't lose it in the first place)
        • Necronomikinda - do you want it back? 
          • HERBAK blinks - has it back
          • It's important, and the power behind the undead invasions lay in this book, as is the power to control the undead it mass-creates. 
        • "Gilam, I got my gun back!"

The Planetar Speaks

  • "It is important that the three orbs be brought back together and that someone use them to begin reversing what has happened."
    • "The other band is currently arriving in Longsaddle as we speak and you will be given the choice as to where you return."
      • Aurora and Clover don't have their eggs (broken, used)
    • "A dracolich (formerly a purple dragon) has been weaving its evil will for thousands of years to bring to fruition its plan to replace all life with undeath. 
    • The cult of the dragon on Toril was originally created to bring about the reign of undeath and was intentionally allowed to be displaced by the cult of Tiamat to permit the true cult to operate under deeper cover." 
    • Stealing a powerful magic from Toril allowed the dracolich and its minions to chain together teleportation gates, so that the huge armies of undead which it had been creating on countless worlds for millennium could be deposited on target worlds to effect their "conversion" more swiftly." 
    • When too many of these chained gates were are operated at the same time, the universe itself began to fracture under the strain. 
      • Your enemy has learned to operate only one such gate cluster under one city at a time. "
      • We do not recommend that you destroy these gate clusters as you may need them to help effect the remedy to this current crisis."
    • Undoing the cosmic scope of the damage that has been done will require addressing the original offense which first motivated this dracolich to embark on its campaign of undeath ... something best left to someone nimble in the manipulation of time itself."   
      • And you will need the assistance of another powerful artifact ... "
  • As the Planetar leads you around a corner in the path, you see a swirling, frothing, elaborate fountain, where the water takes the shapes of moving animals and boiling clouds. 
    • Atop one of the fonts of water rests a glowing book.  
      • Tooled leather with gems, radiating a green light similar to the light given off by the Planetar. 
      • The Book of Secrets
        • "This book contains secrets essential to reversing the campaign of the Dracolich. If we gave it to you all at once, it would destroy you."
        • "The book will respond to your questions by providing you with 100% accurate information up to the point you are prepared to consume". 
  • HERBAK sees this book. 
    • Veralt and Herbak reach for the book, but Gilam trips Veralt
    • HERBAK Channels Divinity - Knowledge of the Ages
      • This book is the source of knowledge HERBAK is seeking. 
      • HERBAK drops the Necronomikinda and reaches for The Book of Secrets
      • FLORA:  "I don't think you want to open that"
      • HERBAK: Picks up the book (already open)

CH-CH-CH-CHANGES!

  • THE REST OF THE PARTY - notice that HERBAK begins glowing the same color as the book
    • A blissful grin spreads across his face
    • What seems like the glowing individual molecules of HERBAK's body become visible ...  
    • Each of these points of light gradually becomes visible as a glowing super-tiny rune. 
    • The glowing runes that comprise HERBAK's "body" begin swirling in a glowing whirlpool and spiral into the center of The Book of Secrets.
      • "I am the text and the text is me, who wants to know stuff!?" says HERBAK
  • A brilliant flash follows.
    • HERBAK is gone ... 
    • The pot atop his head goes clanging to the ground
  • GILAM picks up "Necronomikinda" and puts the book in his bag ... "It's all yours"
  • VERALT picks up "HERBOOK" (The Book of Secrets) and ...  
    • Turns to The One (the visiting Planetar) - 
    • "How do I use this without getting killed"?
      • "Simply ask it a question"
      • "Please give me the definition of a new spell, similar to demi-plane and lower level, that opens a fist-size pocket in which I can keep this book safe."
    • As you interact with The Book of Secrets,  
      • You realize that the voice of the book is the voice of HERBAK in your head and 
      • Every single answer begins with "HELLO!"
      • On the cover of the book, we see HERBAK's face ... which speaks to answer your questions.
  • GILAM 
    • Book of Mystery - what spells does it have for me today
      • 1: 
      • 2: 
      • 3: 
  • The party does not otherwise see HERBAK in 
  • "Are HERBAK and the Book of Secrets now one?
    • "Pending further editions, this is the only copy of either of these things."
  • FLORA takes The Book of Monsters.
  • LLYRIN
    • "Where's the location of the 3rd Orb?"
      • "The book will guide you ... but first, to Longsaddle."
  • VERALT knows that to gaze at the pages of the book is to see wondrous images flowing across their surfaces.

PARTY QUANDRY 

Option 1 - To head to Longsaddle to meet another adventuring party reported to have the 2nd orb or Option 2 - to quest to find the 3rd orb on our own?

ARGUS - Can I get my stuff back?
  • After Argus blinks next, all his gear returns, including his whistle and pipe
VERALT returns the bolo tie to LLYRIN
AURORA - 
  • To the Planetar:  Do you have any advice or lovely parting gifts for us?
RELIGION CHECK:  GILAM 23
  • Most likely speaking to an individual that can detect untruth, etc. 
  • It knows you want some bling. Well, SOME do. 
FLORA - "Our healer has taken on a different role in the party, and as we are adventuring further to save the worlds, anything The One can do to help us make up for this loss, would be appreciated."
HERBAK - is an indestructible book ... so no worries there. 
THE ONE - As you are reincorporated into your original world, you will appear with enhanced abilities or equipment. 
GILAM drinks a beverage that magically appears in his hand - adds one to his STR.
AURORA - Necklace of Healing Faith (was this home brew?)
VERALT - The Planetar says to Veralt "Don't get yourself killed, you're going to be important to these guys."

When you blink next, you are in a rolling meadow in a wood in an area you believe is near LONGSADDLE. 

META STUFF
  • LEVEL UP TO 7
  • In the next week, the party was to come up with ideas of what they wanted to come back with. 1 RARE ITEM OR BELOW (OR 2 COMMON)
  • NOTE - don't give LLYRIN a ring of invisibility.
