DnD Monday #64(311) Played 2019 11 04 - TO LONGSADDLE (Tarsakh 3rd, 1490)

INTRODUCTION

When last we left Team Food for Worms
They were doing their best to NOT become
"food for undead WYRMS"
And not doing too badly, 
all things considered ... 

SCENE 01 - Don't look now, but ...

ROUND 3?


  • As the DRACOLICH finishes its round of being STUNNED, sailing swiftly toward the forest, the party wonders what the HUGE beast will do ... will it bank to the left, turn sharply to the right, loop up and over to attack from high above ... (fingers crossed) or perhaps smash into the trees? 
  • But no, the HUGE skeletal wyrm ... fades from view, disappearing, as if into thin air.
  • E'SSL can't see it any longer, and he can see invisibility and it didn't look like a weird ball of snatch-people-away energy
  • ARCANA CHECKS (SHAMIRA) - it seems to have willed itself away via PLANE SHIFT
  • The party makes a dash for the tree line
  • ANDREA bolts for the tree line at 60'
  • BALGRI moves at 70'
  • E'SSL ditto
  • SHAMIRA - moves toward the tree line at max speed
  • JEDEVES - dashes at 60', being closest, will reach the forest
    • Tells GILIMBA to tell the ANIMATED ARMOR to reverse direction and move toward the forest (arriving in the forest last on 5th round of movement). 

ROUND 4 - RUN AWAY!!



  • MOSS, struck by dragon fear, is standing out in the field by himself, paralyzed in fear
  • The rest of the party moves toward the forest at DASH speed
  • BALGRI notices a low gully running into/out of the forest, and ducks into it to get half-cover as he heads woods-ward!!

ROUND 5 - OI!!



  • JEDEVES reaches the forest edge with E'SSL 
    • The rest of the hobgoblins have bolted to the North and slightly East away from the forest and the DRACOLICH
    • BONUS ACTION - whips out the scimitar (double bladed)
  • PERC CHECK (all but Jed and E'ssl)
    • Everyone outside the forest notice the DRACOLICH flying toward the party from the WEST. 
    • The sentient members of the party are still 1 round from the edge of the woods (at the end of the next round of dashing, you'll be in the forest)
    • The DRACOLICH is just out of ranged-weapon-range at the moment, so this round it can't attack. 

 ROUND 6 - RUNNING FIGHT


  • E'SSL - creates a 100' long wall covering the distance out from the forest to provide cover for those still running (10' tall, 6" thick) AND moves 45' into the woods
  • DRACOLICH moves at max speed into its striking range [60'] (but having dashed, can't act on it's turn)
  • SHAMIRA knows that the DRACOLICH MAY have cloudkill ... it may.
  • JEDEVEZ tries channel divinity turn undead ... BUT, the DRACOLICH is just out of the 30' range of this effect. :( Grrrr
  • BALGRI - throws his hammer at the DRACOLICH (magic hammer)
    • Hits for 23 points of bludgeoning damage!!
  • ANDREA
    • Within 1 dash of the woods, behind the wall, but fires using the wall for partial cover
    • Shortbow hits for 9 points of piercing damage
  • SHAMIRA: (Eldritch Blasts the DRACOLICH
    • hit 1 - bolt of energy 1 - dispels around the DRACOLICH
    • hit 2 - bolt of energy 1 - dispels around the DRACOLICH

ROUND 7 - GILIMBA!

  • The DRACOLICH approaches (will be 60' or less away, depending on how it moves)
  • The Animated Armor arrives at the forest edge 
  • E'SSL moves along but behind the edge of the treeline, allowing for the possibility to provide covering fire with his longbow but getting some cover from the forest.
    • MISS!
    • MISS! 
  • DRACOLICH targets GILIMBA with a sickening burst of roiling, black negative energy
    • CON SAVE - OOOPS!!
    • A slimy, snaking bolt of black energy envelops GILIMBA 
      • Screaming uncontrollably and writhing violently, GILIMBA falls to the ground, and then, quite suddenly, goes utterly limp, her flesh pale, eyes staring blankly upward. 
  • ARCANA CHECK
    • 14 (Bg), 19 (Jv), 22 (An)
      • This strike was overwhelming, more than enough to kill someone
  • JEDEVEZ
    • Casts hellish rebuke, and the DRACOLICH takes 12 points of fire damage!!
  • BALGRI
    • Throws his hammer again!! (say ah-GAIN!!)
      • MISS! but it reappears back in his hand
    • Ends up in the Forest
  • ANDREA
    • Reaches the edge of the forest with regular move speed
    • Fires at the DRACOLICH, but misses, and then hides. 
  • SHAMIRA
    • Moves directly into the forest 
  • GILIMBA RISES!!!! ... and starts a blank-eyed zombie-march toward the party ... 
    • "brains ... BRAINS!!!!"

META-NOTES


  • The party chose to retreat at DASH speed, back toward the forest
  • DRACOLICH did take some hits, but nothing life threatening
    • Was using its Sphere of Invulnerability to great effect against spell attacks
    • Slowed to normal fly speed as it neared the woods
    • GILIMBA was hit with Finger of Death, just as the game was ending, 
      • She arose as a ZOMBIE.
